IRS Scandal Swept Under the Rug

"“Not a smidgeon of corruption”? My God, the whole thing was a pluperfect example of nothing BUT pure corruption, complete corruption, from start to finish and top to bottom. Obama’s preposterous assertion was never anything but laughable on its face, and was itself an example of his own sense of invulnerability, and his smug contempt for not just the rule of law but the American public itself."

"Make no mistake: the weaponization of the IRS by the Obama junta and its deployment to harass people guilty of nothing whatsoever was a crime—a despicable one, a heinous one, a legally-actionable one, and one that should never have been dismissed, denied, excused, or accepted by any real American. "

United State is NOT an "Empire"

After being blamed for "imperialism" by the propoganda machine for 70+ years, it needs to be said that the United States is nothing like an "empire". Some countries that oppose us certainly are, primarily because they have actually been empires in the past, and want to get back to those great days: Russia, China, Iran, etc.

Mark Steyne quote:

"... that’s because America isn’t an empire. And one can have arguments about that..... But Americans don’t have an imperialist bone in their body. And they just give to the world. They give to the world. Who is it, when the tsunami strikes, who is it who comes in and restores the water supply? It’s an American task force..."

"The revisionist autopsies of American history and the guides to sensitively calling your uncle a racist are about substituting resentment for thankfulness."

Excellent article, but be warned about strong language:

Free Trade is Not Founded on Religion

Professor Boudreaux makes it clear (again).

The concepts and proofs of the benefits of free trade are not "religious", they are the result of actual study, debate, and evidence.

The Multiculturalism of Liberty

The Multiculturalism of Liberty v. The Multiculturalism of Coercion

Multiculturalism should not be used against people as a weapon, it should be ingrained within everyone who values liberty. The U. S. was founded and settled by people of many cultures, and that pattern should continue.

We Get to Run Downhill

From Professor Boudreaux, on the subject of "tilted playing fields" in international trade:

" Beijing’s subsidies and tariffs, by obliging the Chinese people to spend more than necessary to acquire imports, force the Chinese people to run uphill economically.  We Americans (and others who buy Chinese exports) do, as you say, play on a tilted field, but it is one tilted in our favor.  We get to run downhill."

Protectionism in practice is ... thuggery

From Professor Boudreaux:

"Protectionism in theory is dubious.  Protectionism in practice is cronyist thuggery costumed as “policy.”"

Corporate Taxes are Personal Taxes

Richard McKenzie:

"The corporate tax is, effectively, a means of taxing people hidden “behind trees,” which is one of its chief attractions to politicians interested in garnering additional tax revenues for the government. They don’t have to admit that the corporate tax is a disguised tax hit on median and low-wage workers and low-income consumers and not on just the rich Trumps, Bill Gates, and Warren Buffets of the world. The exact size of the various hits felt by all income classes are literally unknown and unknowable (although many econometricians feign that their statistical equations reveal truth)."

No, Virginia, There is No Turkey Czar

How do all those turkeys show up in stores in the US just in time for the holidays?

Hint: it's NOT through government planning. Fortunately, there is no "turkey czar".

Bullying

"When someone calls you a racist, sexist, bigot, homophobe because you happen to disagree with them about tax policy or same-sex marriage or abortion, that’s bullying. When someone slanders you because you happen to disagree with them about global warming or the government shutdown, that’s bullying. When someone labels you a bad human being because they disagree with you, they are bullying you. They are attacking your character without justification. That’s nasty. In fact, it makes them nasty.”

"Capital must be actively created and maintained, through production, saving, and sensible investment"

Excellent article about just what is "capital". And, no, it's not what some German guy said it was in 1867. He was wrong.

One quote:

"Austrians have correctly recognized, that capital does not automatically grow or perpetuate itself. Capital must be actively created and maintained, through production, saving, and sensible investment."

Another:

"Yet capital is distinct from money, it is a largely irreversible, definite structure, composed of heterogeneous elements which can be (loosely) described as goods, knowledge, context, human beings, talents and experience. "

So, people, if you destroy or thwart the above items, there is no capital, so no growth, no prosperity for all, no nothing but illusion.

Change Two Words and It's 1934 in Germany

This is an easy thought experiment:

"...if you change whites and "whiteness" into Jews and Judaism and you change people of color, women and LGBT into Germans, the analogy pops out.   "

A toxic mix of economic ignorance, grotesque hypocrisy, and cronyism

Quote from Professor Boudreaux:

"In this, the 21st century, 17th-century mercantilism – a toxic mix of economic ignorance, grotesque hypocrisy, and cronyism – remains alive and well and supported by partisans left and right."

The nation then pays, not for services but for disservices.

Quote from the great Bastiat:

[G]overnments take it upon themselves to cure all the ills of humanity.  They will revive commerce, they say; they will bring prosperity to agriculture, develop factories, encourage arts and letters, abolish poverty, etc., etc.  All that is needed is to create some new government functions and pay for some new functionaries.

In a word, the tactic consists in presenting as real services things that are only hindrances; the nation then pays, not for services but for disservices.  Governments take on gigantic proportions and end up absorbing half of the total revenue.  And the people are surprised at having to work so hard, at hearing the announcement of astonishing inventions that will infinitely increase….

"It must suck to hijack your party, steal a nomination...and still lose"

Great Twitter quote.

"It must suck to hijack your party, steal a nomination, turn DNC into money laundromat, bury any evidence against you, finance fake dossier, swipe the debate questions, and promise free everything, yet still lose to someone you call incompetent."
