Just Like Nixon

Just had to post this. Kim Strassel had an article in the Wall Street Journal recently. Apparently, Obama is singling out US citizens as "enemies of the people" because they donated to his opposition. This is just like Richard Nixon's behavior that caused such reaction in the 1970's. Quote from article:

"Richard Nixon's "enemies list" appalled the country for the simple reason
that presidents hold a unique trust... Their powers—to jail, to fine, to
bankrupt—are also so vast as to require restraint. Any president who targets
a private citizen for his politics is de facto engaged in government intimidation
and threats. This is why presidents since Nixon have carefully avoided the practice.

Save Mr. Obama, who acknowledges no rules. "

Delayed Gratification, Instant Consequences

I was reading a blog recently, and the author was commenting on how young people these days watch well-known public figures get away with just about anything. Sometimes, they don't even apologize for their inappropriate actions. I believe that the current generations first learned this lesson watching Bill Clinton get away with so much.

Anyway, the following thoughts popped into my head:

When I was young, the consequences of my actions were swift (or instantaneous, such as a quick parental swat), and gratification of my wants were almost always delayed (wait till Christmas, earn some money and buy it yourself, etc).

Now I see that gratification is instant, and consequences get seriously delayed or never happen at all. No wonder we have some problems in American society today! No wonder the USA is in a huge debt hole!
